  • Futuroscope

    Subject range: MFL, Art, Science

    What you’ll experience:

    Located near Poitiers, Futuroscope is France's intelligent theme park where students can explore and experience the fascinating developments in cinematography and computers in a futuristic park setting. There are numerous attractions that link into a variety of learning areas. Futur L'Expo is a great exhibition with fun hands-on experiences which contain robots, smart wardrobes, 3D printers, touch-operated tables, and more, all exploring how we will communicate and use our imaginations in the near future. With so much to see at Futuroscope, it's advisable to pre-plan your visit to ensure you gain the most from your time there - visit their website for information on the latest attractions.

  • Les Machines de l'île

    Subject range: MFL, Cultural, History

    What you’ll experience:

    Les Machines de l’île are a fascinating artistic project on the banks of the Loire Valley at Nantes. A highlight is the Grand Éléphant a great mechanical walking piece of architecture where students can see the workings in motion. You'll also experience the Galerie des Machines where the machinists will explain the workings and history and these strange mechanical creatures such as the giant mechanical ant, and the Carrousel des Mondes Marins which is an incredible mechanical sculpture dedicated to the sea.     Students will love seeing these amazing creations and there are two group visit options that are sure to help you make the most out of your visit - the Grand Eléphant ride (takes up to 50 people) and the discovery of Les Machines de l’île. The visit could inspire some great creative work on your return and could form the base of topic led classwork.

  • Château des ducs de Bretagne

    Subject range: MFL, Cultural

    What you’ll experience:

    Students can tour Anne de Bretagne’s castle including the courtyard, ramparts and moat of with information translated to English about how the city was built and has transformed over time. There is also an Urban History Museum which gives a historical portrait of the city of Nantes.

  • Saint-Nazaire river cruise

    What you’ll experience:

    Students discover the river and its landscapes from this unique point of view with a cruise from Nantes to Saint Nazaire!

    Departure of the cruise is at 10 am (Pier of the Isle Of Nantes) arriving Saint-Nazaire 1pm. Return to Nantes by coach later in the day after other excursions.

  • Airbus Factory

    Subject range: Science

    What you’ll experience:

    Visitors walk through two groups of impressive workshops, called Polaris and Comete. There are purpose built visitors’ balconies allowing for views over the fuselage sections of the Airbus planes and the huge sections of the A380.

  • Escal'Atlantic, the Ocean Liner Experience

    Located on the spot where ocean liners used to moor alongside Saint-Nazaire’s quays, Escal'Atlantic tells the story of the transatlantic liners with multimedia devices and an outstanding collection of art and artefacts.

  • Memorial to the Abolition of Slavery

    Subject range: History

    What you’ll experience:

    Nantes was the largest French slave port in the 18th century. The memorial is an area for commemoration and reflection created in the 1990s when the city took the decision to face up to its past. It is advisable for students to have some relevant historical knowledge and to prepare your visit by covering the themes of slavery in class.

    The Memorial is a public area and is open all year round with free entry (no reservations are required). To prepare non-guided visits, education packs, student visit booklets and educational sheets are available on the Memorial website.
