Port Vell

Subject Range: MFL, Art & Design, Cultural
What you’ll experience: Port Vell is a beautiful scenic city port. It was rejuvenated as part of an urban renewal program prior to the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. There is a shopping centre and restaurants, including lots of Tapas bars.
Select Says: The port is an easy walk from Las Ramblas.

Camp Nou Stadium

Subject Range: MFL, Cultural
What you’ll experience: Camp Nou has been the stadium for FC Barcelona since 1957. The Camp Nou Experience gives students the chance to visit the playing field, visitors’ dressing room, players’ tunnel, commentary boxes, pressroom, museum, and see numerous interactive displays.
Select Says: In the museum you can see the club’s four Champions league and 22 Liga trophies. There is also a ‘Messi Space’ where the player’s 3 Golden Boots can be viewed.

Park Güell

What you’ll experience: Park Güell includes beautiful gardens, architecture and mosaics. It is the reflection of Gaudí’s naturalist phase when the architect was inspired by organic shapes found in nature. The park also includes the Gaudí House-Museum which was the residence of Antoni Gaudí for almost 20 years. Located on Carmel Hill, there are also beautiful views of Barcelona.
Select Says: Ensure you don’t miss Gaudí’s multi-coloured mosaic salamander, popularly known as the dragon.

La Sagrada Familia

What you’ll experience: The most popular tourist attraction in the city, this impressive Catholic church is Gaudi’s unfinished masterpiece. This large, sand-coloured church has fluid forms, towering spires and surfaces overflowing with sculptures. There are 8 existing towers, however when the church is finished it will have 18: 12 dedicated to the apostles, 4 to the evangelists, one to Jesus and another to Mary.

Las Ramblas

Subject Range: MFL, Art & Design, Cultural
What you’ll experience: Las Ramblas is the central boulevard which cuts through the heart of the city centre and is primarily pedestrianised. It is approximately 1.2 kilometres long with Port Vell (near the cruise port terminal) at the Southern most end and Plaça Catalunya at the northern most end. You can also visit La Boqueria, a large food market housed in one of La Ramblas’ most interesting buildings.
Select Says: Look out for live performances, human statue art, and working artists.

Olympic Stadium

What you’ll experience: The site of the 1992 Olympic Games, this is an impressive complex to explore, including stadiums, massive courtyards, fountains, a park, and the Calatrava Tower (which is the telecommunications tower and the symbol of the Barcelona Olympic Games said to be visible anywhere in Barcelona).
Select Says: There are lovely views of the city from the park’s elevated position.

The Gaudi Experience – 4D

Las Golondrinas Boat Trip

What you’ll experience: Get a different view of the city from the water! Double decker open air boat trips around the port, 40mins or 1 hour duration.

Tapas Evening

What you’ll experience: Students experience this traditional Spanish meal comprising of a wide variety of appetisers and snacks which may be hot or cold. A great chance for students to be adventurous and sample Spanish food.
Select Says: The serving of tapas is designed to encourage conversation (as diners are not so focused on eating an entire meal) – this is a great opportunity for your students to try out their Spanish speaking skills!

PortAventura

What you’ll experience: This is a seaside theme park (one of the largest in Spain) and includes six themed worlds, rides and live shows. Find out more here.

What you’ll experience: Visit this tranquil oasis, east of the gothic quarter, which features a beautiful lake with Gaudi designed water feature ‘La Cascada’.

Chocolate Museum

What you’ll experience: A small museum, but well worth a visit. Learn about the history of chocolate throughout the ages and maybe even pick up some treats at the end in the gift shop.

Aquarium Barcelona

What you’ll experience: Located in the Port Vell area, is one of Europe’s largest and most diverse aquariums. It houses over 11,000 marine animals across 450 species, showcasing Mediterranean ecosystems as well as tropical and oceanic habitats. The highlight is its impressive Oceanarium, a massive tank with a walk-through tunnel, where visitors can observe sharks, rays, and other large marine life up close.

La Pedrera – Casa Mila

What you’ll experience: A UNESCO world heritage site, this is one of Gaudi’s final masterpieces of architecture. Inspired by nature, the unsual building now houses a cultural centre.

Tapas Lesson

Subject Range: Cultural, Food Technology
What you’ll experience: Learn how to cook 6 different tapas at this city centre workshop. Afterwards, enjoy the end results with a dessert and a drink. Information: 1.5 hour duration.

Barca Immersive Tour (Camp Nou Stadium)

What you’ll experience: While Camp Nou is in the process of redevelopment, visit the Barca Immersive Tour and learn about the history of this legendary stadium. Fully interactive, including an audio guide (downloadable to mobile phone), the visit includes a large-format audio visual experience to bring the iconic stadium to life.

Waterworld, Lloret de Mar
